Sohil Malik

Research Associate

Sohil works as a Research Associate on Professor Matthew Kraft’s research team and is primarily focused on understanding the effects of climate change on U.S. K-12 public schools. His work highlights the risks of climate change on student learning outcomes and school infrastructure. Because much of policy is evidence-driven, Sohil is focused on applying his quantitative background to research that will ultimately inform blueprints for making schools more sustainable and resilient to climate change, while also promoting educational equity.

Sohil holds a B.S. in Statistics from the University of Michigan and an M.A. in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences from Columbia University. Sohil’s interest in education policy began while interning at the Civil Rights Data Collection team in the U.S. Department of Education. His master’s thesis, titled “The Role of Political Participation in Environmental Outcomes: Understanding the Relationship Between Voter Turnout and Air Quality” advances research relating environmental justice issues with socioeconomic factors.

When he is not at work, Sohil enjoys spending time with friends and family and painting with watercolors and acrylics.
