Accelerator Research Associate-2

The National Student Support Accelerator’s (the Accelerator) vision is that every student in need has access to an effective tutor who champions and ensures their learning and success. The Accelerator is creating the research-backed tools and supports to drive quality and impact as tutoring scales. As part of this work, the Accelerator is working in many school districts across the country, supporting and studying the implementation of tutoring.

The Accelerator is located in the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University. By bringing together diverse thinkers to tackle difficult problems, the Institute advances education: harnessing the power of Brown’s community to develop education leaders, building actionable knowledge through systematic research, partnering with educators and policy-makers for local impact, and encouraging robust civic discourse.

The Research Associate will be responsible for cleaning, analyzing, and organizing data from the Accelerator research partnerships, working with Principal Investigators in defining research objectives, and summarizing and developing theories of action from the data collection.  The position requires independent work well as collaboration with the Accelerator Research team.  The research associate must have a demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, statistics, data science, a social science discipline, or another data intensive field, or a Bachelor’s degree plus relevant experience.
  • Significant experience with Stata statistical software is required. Proficiency with other statistical software is beneficial but the majority of work will be completed in STATA.
  • Experience in quantitative data management and analysis. Demonstrated familiarity with the organization of data, including data structures, record layouts, and file structures.
  • Experience planning and executing quality assurance/data validation systems for large data sets
  • Demonstrated knowledge or interest in education research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, specifically Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with version control and research replication processes
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on multiple projects
  • Graduate level coursework or experience in econometric methods helpful but not required.
  • Extreme attention to detail required.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
