Professor Matthew Kraft Appointed to White House Council of Economic Advisers

Matthew Kraft, Associate Professor of Education and Economics at Brown University, was recently appointed to a one-year term as a senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) in the Biden administration. Established by Congress in 1946, the CEA advises the president on a wide range of economic policy issues based on data, research, and evidence. Professor Kraft’s tenure on the council began in July and will continue for a full academic year. 

"It is a real honor to step into the role of Senior Economist with the CEA and serve the President,” Kraft says. “I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity and look forward to providing analyses that can help to strengthen our education systems, the economy, and the environment."

A member of Brown’s Department of Education since 2013, Kraft is an economist of education whose scholarship primarily focuses on efforts to improve educator and organizational effectiveness in K-12 public schools. He is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Research Fellow with IZA – Institute of Labor Economics, and an Invited Researcher at J-PAL North America.
