The Race and Education Research Initiative at the Annenberg Institute provides a space to rethink how we interrogate race and education, and generates rigorous scholarship on the relationship among race, educational policy, and organizational practices. Through community engagement research and innovative, practice-based efforts, this initiative studies racial inequity in education and provides research-based approaches to expanding educational opportunity.

Working with education leaders across Rhode Island, we put evidence into action to drive improvement at the school, district, and state levels. We work with district and state leadership teams to co-develop and synthesize research agendas with the people they impact most. We provide the research rigor and implementation expertise necessary for systemic change, ensuring that every insight is grounded in the practical realities of RI classrooms and improves outcomes in districts and systemwide.

Through our pillars: applied research training, engaged scholarship, sustained partnerships, and efforts to generate actionable knowledge, we seek to improve the creation, synthesis, and application of educational research.

Our talented and diverse staff is composed of researchers, former teachers and administrators, and data experts who work alongside our district and state partners. As a group, we aim to identify areas of need and find opportunities for success in our local context.
