Associate Director of Communications and Outreach
Sam Stockwell leads the Institute’s communications and external relations work, helping to translate Annenberg’s cutting-edge research into actionable and engaging resources and opportunities. Sam has spent most of his career working at the intersection of education and communications. Teaching photography and video production at a Boys & Girls Club and serving as the Director of Admissions and Development at an independent school shaped Sam’s vision of the persistent challenges and opportunities in urban education systems. This led him to pursue a master’s degree in Urban Education Policy at Brown University.
After graduating, he worked as the Federal Programs Coordinator at the Providence Public School District, helping to administer emergency federal funds during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following this role, Sam returned to Brown as a part of the Annenberg Institute’s EdResearch for Action initiative, supporting districts in adopting and implementing evidence-based initiatives to accelerate learning following the pandemic. After working on the EdResearch for Action team, Sam jumped at the chance to take on a communications-specific role with Annenberg. Now, he leverages his experience in schools and districts to help Annenberg deliver content and opportunities that meet the most pressing needs of educators, students, and families.
Outside of work, Sam loves spending time with his family. As the parent of two young children, he spends many days riding bikes, playing baseball in the backyard, going to the zoo, and (when it’s warm enough) consuming as much Del’s frozen lemonade as possible.
