This report, produced in partnership with the Rhode Island School Superintendents Association (RISSA) and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), examines the current state of teacher professional learning (PL) in Rhode Island. It identifies challenges districts face and provides guidance for district and state leaders to strengthen PL.
Over the past decade, districts have increased spending on PL, but gaps remain as federal COVID relief funding has ended. The report outlines practical steps to improve PL, including stabilizing investments, establishing a coaching model, and aligning PL time with district priorities.
The findings suggest that sustaining and expanding these efforts through a purposeful PL strategy can support student learning by turning investments into improvements in classroom instruction.
